Victoria Rebels Junior Football Club

In the winter of 2004, Victoria Junior Football, a program that has operated in the Capital region since 1971, was on the verge of being re-located by a Nanaimo businessman that wanted to operate the team in his home town. The move was blocked by a group of current and past club supporters and IPSMG President, Drew Finerty. The group managed to save the club from moving, however the coaches and all but two players left to join the new expansion team in Nanaimo.

Faced with the daunting task of rebuilding the organization, this group set out to re-create the Rebels. IPSMG was contracted to revitalize the identity and implement a marketing and publicity campain to brand the club and start the process of establishing a presence in the city of Victoria. Our firm also used their relationships in the community to raise sponsorship funds, develop a media campain, and get the word out the team still plays in the BC Football Conference of the Canadian Junior Football League.

The first year (2005) was a tremendous re-birth, as the team recruited a highly successful high school coach from Canmore, Alberta with a reputation as a strong recruiter and great evaluator of talent. Within 3 months the club held their first rookie camp where more than 100 players from BC, Alberta and Ontario showed up to try out for the team. By early July, the team was ready to compete with a full roster of 55 players. After a slow start, while the players got familiar with their new surroundings and playbooks, the Rebels finished the season winning 3 of their last 4 games, losing by six points to the team that went on to win the provincial championships.

Off the field, IPSMG spear-headed the marketing and publicity for the team and created the new identity the team is now known by. Elements IPSMG created were:
* Revised logo
* Re-designed website
* New stationary
* Print materials (recruiting brochures, posters, pocket schedules, season tickets, etc.
* Designed and produced souvenir program.
* Newspaper ads, radio & tv commercials.
* Developed Media relations.
* Press conferences
* Sponsorship sales
* Team Events
* Fundraisers

IPSMG, in conjunction with the Rebel executive, are working towards growing football in Victoria from the grassroots up, by working with other levels of football to increase awareness for the sport and inspire players to reach to the top of their sport. The company and team are also in the process of creating the opportunity to have a new football stadium by the year 2008.
